Key Text: I Corinthians 2:1-2
When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
Theme:
A Christian is one who teaches Christ. It is possible to teach someone certain facts about the Bible, to raise particular doctrinal issues and ethical questions, but never confront that person with the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus preached Jesus. Peter preached Jesus. Philip and Stephen preached Jesus. Paul preached Jesus. We must be busy preaching Jesus as well.
Application:
We have assumed that most people in our society already know Jesus, that all they need is some doctrinal fine-tuning and moral motivation. In fact, most people, even in church pews, are ignorant of the man Jesus. We must lift up Christ!
