The Passover Lamb

Key Text: 1 Peter 1:18-19

For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

Theme:

The parallels between the Passover in the Old Testament and the crucifixion in the New Testament are striking. They are intended to be. Jesus is now our Passover lamb. He is slain so that we may live. His blood causes the wrath of God to pass over us. We eat his flesh to draw sustenance for the long journey which lies ahead. In the words of the Baptist, Jesus is "the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"

Application:

Has the blood of Jesus been sprinkled on your heart? Do you trust in that blood to keep you safe on the night of Judgment? It is not your superior morality or doctrinal purity which guarantees your safety, but the blood of the Lamb.
