No Common Cross

Key Text: Php 2:8

And being found in the appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross! (NIV)

Theme:

To the Christian, the cross is the greatest and most wonderful event in history. It was at the cross that Christ became our ransom. At the cross, Jesus was sacrificed for us. And at the cross, Jesus substituted himself for us and paid the penalty in our stead. That is why we rejoice in the cross and glory in the cross and boast in the cross.

Application:

Do you still think of the cross as a tragedy, a sad and terrible event? If so, you have not understood the cross. Certainly we grieve that our sins caused the death of Jesus. But just as certainly we rejoice that by his death we are saved.
