The Religion of Jesus is

Heart not Hands

Key Text: 1 Samuel 16:7

The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

Isaiah 29:13

These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

Theme:

Uncleanness before God is the perennial problem of man. How we become clean again is our most pressing issue. Simply because we do certain things or observe certain rituals, however, does not mean we can be cleansed. Pollution of the heart is the thing which defiles us in God’s eyes, and only a solution of the heart can make us right again. We need heart surgery to be clean again.

Application:

Today is the day to purify your hearts and stand clean before God. A new birth is required - a birth of water and Spirit. Don’t fool yourself with less drastic solutions. Only radical rebirth will do.
