Key Text: Mark 14:30-31
"I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "today-- yes, tonight-- before the rooster crows twice you yourself will disown me three times." But Peter insisted emphatically, "Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you." And all the others said the same. (NIV)
Theme:
Failure seems to have been Peter’s middle name. And the other disciples are little better. They disappoint and exasperate Jesus just when they should be the greatest strength and support. Yet Jesus expects them to fail. He predicts it. And he makes every effort to tell them that, though they will desert him, he will never desert them.
Application:
Have you ever failed your Lord? Has failure so discouraged you that you feel unworthy to be a disciple or afraid to risk failing again? Jesus can deal with our failure. What he cannot abide is a lack of repentance when failure occurs.
