Key Text: Heb 13:11-12
The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood.
Theme:
Christianity is every bit as "bloody" a religion as Judaism. Just like the Jews, we depend on the sacrifice of an innocent victim and the pouring out of his blood to stand clean before God. It is no wonder that in our singing, around the Table, in our initiation into Christ, the blood is stressed. It is through Christ's blood that we have been saved.
Application:
Just because we do not see the red drops of blood sprinkled on our clothing and smeared on our thumbs and toes does not mean that we do not contact the blood of Jesus in a quite literal way. It may do you good to consider the implications of wearing Christ’s blood as you go through your week.
