The Religion of Jesus is Scriptural

Key Text: Mark 7:6-7

He replied, "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; Their teachings are but rules taught by men.’ You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men."

Theme:

There is a vast difference between tradition and the word of God. Yet many believers are as fond of their traditions as they are of the direct teaching of Scripture. While we cannot avoid a certain amount of tradition in the church, we must be conscious of the fact that it is always dangerous and always ready to usurp the place of Scripture in our lives.

Application:

Scripture must be our sole authority in determining the teaching and practice of the church. When we find a difference between the religion we have inherited and the religion of the Bible, we must choose to stand firmly with the Bible.
