Jesus and the Nobodies

Key Text: Luke 4:18-19

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.

Theme:

You might imagine that the mission of God come to earth would be to save the worthy, to call the important, to befriend the powerful. Nothing could be less true. Jesus Christ came to teach the insignificant how to be significant in the eyes of God. He came to turn "nobodies" into "somebodies."

Application:

The next time you are tempted to ignore someone, or climb the social ladder, or feel superior - remember that Jesus calls us to reevaluate our own importance (we are slaves) and the importance of others (all people have significance and worth).
